National Forest Programme PDF Print E-mail

Partner: FMI

Location: Czech Republic

Service and user scenario:
NFP will follow ideas of currently prepared the Forest Action Plan (FAP), which should include formulation of strategic aims particularly in following areas: biodiversity, forest management and protection, environmental forest functions and benefits, usage of wood; economic viability of forest sector including non-wood goods and services.
Preparatory works on the amendment of NFP for the period 2007-2013 has already begun, too.
Scenarios from NFP centres are coordinated with border cross countries. Metadata, geometric and semantic harmonisation of multiple representations and different sources of geodata are concentrated according to GMES.

Forest scenario contains these following Use Cases:

  • Forest typology – data for field survey of forest typology for RPFD
  • EAFRD - Support European countyside
  • Transportation network database maintenance and update
  • Interconnection between data layers in the project “Virtual Forest Authority“ in cooperaction of Germany and Czech Republic

Use of environmental data:
The development of Forest scenario is focused on harmonisation of metadata, coordinate system, geometry, data models and sensor standardisation. For harmonisation tasks there will be used these software tools and modules: Micka, UMN Mapserver, Intergraph platform, Geoserver, MapMan etc.

Stakeholders involved:
National public authorities in a range of departments.

Users involved:
All Czech citizens and businesses, participants in cross-border cooperation, etc.

Policy / business model:
The Czech Republic, in terms of area, is one of the smaller states in Europe but it can be proud of its highly diverse natural wealth. Forests are undoubtedly one of the most valuable of its assets - their value can be expressed by purely economic indicators, but the true significance of forests far exceeds their economic importance. National Forest Programme (NFP) has been prepared in a harmony with the ongoing policy discussion on forestry issues on European level.
